There is certainly any number of companies in the EDC and tactical tools space already, so why start a new company in the space?
For us, it started several years ago with the recognition that the world we live in is a dangerous one. And danger comes in many forms – from dangers posed by human predators, to non-human, more natural dangers such as earthquakes, floods, and other bad things that can happen to anyone, at any time, in any place, any more. That’s reality. Recognizing our duty to protect our growing families, and ourselves, we began acquiring various ‘tools’ that might give us an edge in difficult situations.
Over time, the dangers and risks have dramatically grown. As they have, so have our various acquisitions. Beyond acquiring tools and skills, I personally got involved, on a local basis, with a national program known as CERT – Community Emergency Response Team. Here, too, my involvement yielded further acquisitions, all in an effort to be ready for the unknown and unplanned – not just for me and mine, but also for everyone around me that I may be able to assist in a time of need.
This readiness turned into a passion – one that needs to be shared. That passion is now Urban Operator. And the ‘us’ and ‘our’ referred to above, references my two adult sons, Greg and Brian, and myself. Yes, we’re a family operation. We’ve given up full-time careers in technology, entertainment, and business consulting to create Urban Operator. That’s not to say we don’t still have interests in those fields, but we are hell bent on introducing greater numbers of people like ourselves to the world of EDC. It’s that important to us.
We’re starting small, but with big ideas. We know we must crawl before we can walk, and that we must walk before we can run. We’re up to the task at hand, and today we start the crawl with the initial launch of Urban Operator.
We chose our name carefully. None of us have military backgrounds. We live, work and defend ourselves in an urban environment in Southern California, arriving here with Midwestern values. Today we train for the unknown and unexpected, and we are ready.
When it comes to human dangers, perhaps this movie quote best explains our mindset. “I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.”
And when it comes to natural disasters, here too, we are ready, though we recognize that Mother Nature is a more formidable force than any human.
Welcome to our world, the world of Everyday Carry and Mission-Specific Tactical Tools. Lastly, for the moment, please keep in mind at all times, that today, the battlefield is everywhere.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with you!
